Join us for Anexa’s Pre-calving workshop for beginners

This is an in-clinic workshop for farm staff new to dairying. This workshop introduces the main animal health topics that staff will encounter in the first few months of the spring-calving season. What’s covered in the Workshop:

Intro to dairying and animal health basics

• Recognise when a cow or calf is unwell
• Know when to call the vet for an emergency
• Learn the basic ‘tools of the trade’ (thermometer, leg ropes, halter, nose tongs)
• Be able to read the farm’s drug chart to know what treatments have been prescribed for use on farm
• Injections – how and where to give them

Calvings

• Recognise when a cow is calving and when she needs help
• Practice applying leg ropes on our model calf

Calf Rearing

• Colostrum management
• Recognising and treating a sick calf

Down Cows

• Learn about the 3 most common metabolic diseases and how to treat them

Mastitis

• Know the signs of clinical mastitis in a dairy cow
• Mastitis prevention tips

Lameness

• Recognise the early signs of lameness
• Most common causes of lameness on NZ farms

Members $150, Non members $300.
