Demand for large animal technicians grows

Feb 3, 2023 | Community, Dairy, News, Working at Anexa

The demand for Large Animal Technicians with practical animal handling experience and a proactive attitude has grown. Anexa Veterinary Services employs around 30 technicians, including seasonal, clinical and research technicians.

Our large animal technicians are a valued part of our team. On the job training, a focus on health and safety and team welfare are essential components in ensuring our people succeed.

Seasonal technicians

Every year in autumn, Anexa Vets employs a group of technicians to provide teat sealing and dry cow therapy services to herdowners, with many of those staying on to help with calf disbudding in the spring. Due to seasonal variation in dry off dates, the start date and workflow vary year to year, but once it starts, it’s all go.

Our seasonal technicians work in teams, providing an effective and efficient service to our farming community. They enjoy working with animals and are trained to a high standard, based on the latest research, to ensure the best results are achieved for both animal and farmer alike. Our techs’ attention to detail is a priority, and their easy-going and light-hearted culture makes working in these teams enjoyable. Each team is headed up by a team leader with years of experience, providing invaluable support to their teammates throughout the season. Lead Tech Clancy Merchant provides leadership and guidance. She ensures the wheels keep turning and every team member is valued, and their hard work is appreciated.

Clinical technicians

Our clinical techs work to provide technician services and often work alongside our large animal veterinarians. We have found this a winning combination to provide great service to our farming members. Working in collaboration with our vets gives our clinical technicians the support they need to ensure continued growth and development. In addition, Anexa is a teaching practice, with regular training sessions and opportunities to establish and cement new skills provided.

Research technicians

Cognosco, Anexa’s research division, employs technicians who undertake sampling and treatments, and collect and enter data. This valuable work is instrumental in improving animal health outcomes and providing practical, real-world solutions for our farmers. There is often a demand for extra resource, so our seasonal and clinical technicians may be called upon to assist should the need arise.
