Do you have a new pup between 7 – 15 weeks old? We regularly run puppy preschool classes at our Morrinsville clinic to learn tips and tricks on:
- Obedience,
- Preventing behavioural problems,
- Socialising,
- And most importantly – having fun with your new fur-baby!
Our next puppy preschool class starts on Wednesday 30 April. Classes will run for four weeks on a Wednesday evening.

The continuing professional development (CPD) programme consists of four different days throughout the year covering four different topics.
It’s open to recent graduates (year 1 and 2) from any veterinary practice.
The four dates we’re hosting this year are:
- Friday 11 April.
- Friday 13 June.
- Friday 29 August.
- Friday 7 November.

- Dairy health.
- Parasitology.
- General lab and sampling procedures.
- Time management.
- Animal welfare: certification, lameness.
- Physical health and wellbeing.

- Companion animal dentistry.
- Animal behaviour (different speaker).

We’re running two in-clinic workshops for farm staff to cover the main animal health topics they’ll encounter during the spring-calving season.

Morrinsville: Tuesday 17 June.

Ngatea: Thursday 19 June.
What’s included in the workshop:
An intro into dairying and the basics on animal health:
• How to recognise when a cow or calf is unwell.
• Learn to know when it’s time to call the vet for an emergency.
• Learn the basic ‘tools of the trade’ e.g., thermometer, leg ropes, halter, nose tongs.
• How to read a farm’s drug chart to know what treatments have been prescribed to use on the farm.
• How and where to give injections.
Calving:
• How to recognise when a cow is calving and when she needs help.
• Practice applying leg ropes on a model calf.
Calf rearing:
• Tips on colostrum management.
• How to recognise and treat a sick calf.
Down cows:
• Learn the three most common metabolic diseases and how to treat them.
Mastitis:
• Learn to know the signs of clinical mastitis in dairy cows.
• Learn mastitis prevention tips.
Lameness:
• Learn to recognise the early signs of lameness.
• Learn the most common causes of lameness on NZ farms.
Tickets are $150 for Anexa members and $300 for non-Anexa members.
