Every year (since 1997), Anexa awards two scholarships to Massey 4th year veterinary students. They are selected via an application and interview process overseen by John McCarthy and Travis Scott. Each of the successful scholarship winners receives a $3,000 grant from Anexa and they spend 2 weeks’ work experience in the Practice. Many previous grant recipients have gone on to work with Anexa as your vets after graduation.
The 2022/23 successful applicants are Nicole Johnston and Jenny Jang.
Nicole Johnston
Nicole grew up in Kerikeri, Northland, and from an early age has shown an interest in working in the veterinary profession. Nicole has done work experience, and worked, frequently at a vet clinic in her hometown, and has a great understanding of the day-to-day requirements and challenges of being a vet. Horses are also a passion of Nicole, as she has ridden and cared for horses since an early age and has ridden competitively.
We believe Nicole is a worthy recipient of the Anexa scholarship as she showed us a great attitude and understanding around veterinary work alongside great maturity and communication skills. Her passion to grow and develop her veterinary skills was apparent throughout the interview, and we are extremely excited to assist her in studies.
Jennifer Jang
Jennifer grew up in Auckland and has previously completed study in Pharmacy through University of Auckland. Jennifer has worked as a pharmacist in multiple rural centres for several years prior to starting her Veterinary degree. Jennifer works on a dairy farm near Palmerston North on the weekends to improve her understanding of farms systems and to help support herself financially. Jennifer interests outside of study include tennis and going hiking around New Zealand.
We believe Jennifer is a worthy recipient of the Anexa scholarship as she has shown an outstanding attitude and maturity. We were extremely impressed with her passion and effervescent personality and felt that she will make an outstanding contribution to the veterinary industry. We are pleased to be able to assist her with her further studies and will be following her future career with great interest.
Congratulations, we look forward to hosting you both for work experience later in the year.
