It’s exciting news on the repro front – for two years in a row!
But the real question is – how well did your herd do in-calf for the 2024/25 season compared to the rest of the district?
It’s once again time for us to run the annual reproduction stats to see how our Anexa herds have shaped up this season.
As everyone was eager to know if last season’s 6-week in-calf rate could be repeated, we’ve run our stats a little earlier this season and… for us at Anexa – yes it could! With another record year!
The overall 6-week in-calf rate for our Anexa Vet Services’ herds (that pregnancy tested with us) was the best we’ve ever had in 22 years of tracking results – with an average (and median of 75% for the number geeks) of 74.1%! The empty rate after 76 days of mating was similar to last season’s result at 11.5%.
This season we also had another record – with 30% of farmers achieving at or above the national target of a 78% 6-week in-calf rate, which is an exceptional result and shows that it’s definitely possible (and this includes an extra 5% of farmers than what we had last year!).
Once again with these improved results, we need to be ready for a faster calving on average – the 3-week in-calf rates were back to where they should be, so be ready for extra mouths to feed in July!
If you haven’t done a feed budget to get you through until the end of autumn during these frustratingly dry conditions, then this is another reason to do it – because you’ll need more food in July and August than you have in the last few years!
Please get us to help you with this, as we have a whole crew of vets who we’re training through our farm systems programme – and they’re super enthusiastic about doing feed budgets. 😊
